Casual Case Worker Criteria and position description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Shelter Operations Manager
GLWS is a short term/crisis accommodation service for up to 10 women with or without dependent children, who are experiencing homelessness and/or domestic or family violence. Caseworkers provide a safe and nurturing environment to support women and children to rebuild self-esteem, access appropriate services and achieve control and fulfillment in their lives. Caseworkers support and empower residents with a client-centered, goal focused case management approach.
The shelter is based in Forster NSW.
We are currently looking for an experienced, caring, reliable and flexible caseworker to join our supportive team on a casual basis.
GLWS are seeking an experienced Caseworker(s) to fill a casual casework position
Essential criteria: (Please address each essential criteria in your application)
- Completed Diploma of Community Services or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated skills in engaging women and children with challenging behaviours, complex needs and presenting in crisis situations
- An understanding of homelessness, awareness around current issues
- Demonstrated ability to work within a trauma informed practice/ model
- Willingness to work various and flexible hours
- Proficient computer skills and the ability to use online case management systems
- Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team to achieve individual and team goals
- Current unrestricted NSW Driver’s License
- Working with Children Check and Police Check
Desirable criteria:
- Ability to think innovatively and creatively to develop tailored client-centric solutions
- Meet OHS responsibilities and a commitment to the principles of child protection, WH&S, cultural diversity and ethical practice
- Current first aid certificate or capacity to acquire one before commencement
- Ability to adapt to an unpredictable work environment
- Demonstrated work experience with women who have a history of domestic violence and/or homelessness
- Demonstrated experience with or sensitivity to social issues facing Aboriginal communities
- Demonstrated resilience using common sense and a positive attitude, while maintaining a realistic practical approach

- Remuneration: Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award and in line with position responsibilities, experience and qualifications.
